Issue #18: More About 2021 Nationals

Scranton, PA, home of the 2021 National Beard and Moustache Championships.

Hello!

We have been busy making sure that this years Nationals is going to be as fun and rewarding as ever. In addition to food and beverage options, we have been gathering a wide variety of vendors and tattoo artists. We have made arrangements to have the waterpark open to all of our guests, and we have also reserved some camping spots on the mountain, should anyone have interest in being outdoorsy.

Scranton is a sweet little town and we are looking forward to showing all of the locals how amazing and diverse our bearding community can be. One of the most common comments that we receive as organizers of this event is how friendly all of our competitors and guests are. It’s truly a fun, exciting time to hang out and visit with your bearding family from across the country. We are finalizing our welcome party/pub crawl for Thursday September 9, and we should be announcing details about that and a Friday Night afterparty in the coming weeks.

The next few newsletters and blasts will be primarily focused on this years Nationals and pushing towards general event engagement. We hope that you can continue to endure our seemingly constant, yet gentle reminders; we are really looking forward to seeing all of your smiles and magnificent facial hair in September!

SO MUCH CONTENT ABOUT NATIONALS!

During most times, our American Beard Report Newsletters have more content about the normal, everyday, Fantastic American Facial Hair wearer or supporter. We miss that sort of feel-good content, so we dusted off an amazing interview with bearding superstar Casey Holbrook for your enjoyment.

COOL.

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING TO JUDGE THIS THING?

Thanks for asking. We have an elite panel of 12 judges who will be taking turns to cover all 50+ categories and Divisions. Two of these fine specimens are outlined below.

Brad P.jpg

BRAD PETRINEC

Brad “El Taco” Petrinec, got his start in competitive bearding in Somervile, Massachusetts back in 2012, the following year he joined the Boston Beard Bureau and founded & organized the annual Whiskered Wonderland competition in Worcester, MA which lasted 4 years. During that time he moved back to his hometown of the greater Detroit area. In 2015 he founded Detroit’s annual Circus of Whiskers facial hair competition which is going on its 6th year, and he also got a few friends together and formed the Murder City Facial Hair Crew, where he still reins as President. Most recently, Taco served as one of the Vice Presidents of the Alliance – NACBMA from 2019-2021.

El Taco has competed all over the country and Canada and even won a few trophies in several different categories from Full Beard Freestyle to Styled Mustache, he even holds the title as the Dali Mustache champion from the Great American Championships in 2018! But that’s not why he does it, he’s truly passionate about helping the charities. The competition’s and comradery are just added bonuses.

If you’re looking to bribe him, leave the booze behind, he doesn't drink and hasn’t since 2003. He actually survives solely on tacos, so feed this not so gentle-man some cilantro, onions & chorizo on a warmed corn tortilla and he may give you a perfect score. (Your score won’t actually be affected by gifts)

STEPHEN CASPER

“Humbled and honored to judge The National Championship. Was privileged to compete for 6 years as Mr RED or General Burnside with more than my share of success having placed in all but 2 competitions. Highlights were placing at all National competitions, British National Championship and 3rd place at the 2017 World Championship in Austin, Texas.”

OH, BTW… WE WILL HAVE A RAFFLE AT NATIONALS!

And, to make it even more spectacular, Mr. Casper has donated his two infamous, award-winning costumes to the mix! All proceeds from our raffle items will be divided amongst the charities.
More details coming soon!
